If your child is absent, all school work, homework, tests, and quizzes will be expected to be made up. It is the student's responsibility to make sure they find out what they have missed and make it up. When a student is absent, a "work missed" sheet will be filled out by either a student or myself. If a student fills it out, I will check it before it goes home. This will have all of the schoolwork that was done in the day, as well as the homework for that night. All missed work must be completed. The absent sheet, along with any sheets I handed out, books, or folders needed may be sent home with a sibling in another grade. (However, this is contingent on if I can find everything.) If your child does not have a sibling in another grade here at LCS, you may either pick it up by 3:00 PM at the classroom if you email me to tell me in advance, otherwise your child can get it when he/she comes back.
Absences and tardies require written excuses for New York State. Those that are not documented are assumed to be illegal absences by the state. I have included an excuse note for your convenience. It is also on the website. You may copy this as you need it, or you may write your own note. If you use your own, please include your child's name, date(s) they were absent, reason why, and your signature. If your child comes in late, you must sign them in at the office. If a child is late three times without being signed in by a parent, they get a detention. "Late" means not in our classroom by 8:10 AM.

Legal Absences:
All other absences are considered illegal and will be recorded as such.
Please let me know when your child will be leaving early. I need to know when
and why for NY attendance records. I have included an early dismissal note on
this site for your convenience. You may copy this as you need it, or you may
write your own note. If you use your own, please include your child's name, the
date and time that they are leaving early, reason why, and your signature.

Change in Dismissal: Please send a note in with your child if there is any change from their regular dismissal routine.
When I pass out papers, there are enough copies for every student. If a student needs another copy for some reason, they must pay ten cents per page for another one. (The front of a page is one page. The front and back would be two pages.)
Homework assignments for the day will be written on the assignment board in class for the students to copy down into their student planners. All homework must be done neatly, on time, and fully completed.
Sloppy work will not be accepted. Regular homework that is not turned in on time will have 20 points taken off. The work must be handed in the next day. If it is not, it will be a zero. For all major projects and reports, 10 points will be taken off for each day the assignment is late.
There will be one warning for each quarter. The warning means the assignment will not have points taken off, but it still needs to be done and handed in the next day. I do not give unnecessary homework. Therefore, if it's assigned, there is a reason for it. This is why it must be done.
All work must be corrected if it says, "Correct" or "Please correct" on it. If it is not corrected, the grade will be deducted. If it is not done completely, if I choose to accept it, several points will be taken off. A "redo" that is not done is a zero. A "redo" that is done will be a 90% at most (only less if they left work out).
Students have one week from when the assignment was due to correct it and hand it back in. I suggest they do it immediately, so it will help them study for their tests and quizzes. Also, this way, it won't pile up. In addition, they may need to correct it more than once. Homework averages can really affect the student's grade, positively or negatively.
You should go over all tests and quizzes with your child. Look at anything they got wrong, even if it's not a low grade.
Any test grade that is below an 80% must be signed by a parent and
returned to school the next day. Please do not just sign and return the test. Go over it with your child so you can help them see and understand what they did wrong so they won't do it again on the test (or on other quizzes or tests). Students often make the same mistakes in their work.
