If your child is absent, all school work, homework, tests, and quizzes will be expected to be made up. It is the student's responsibility to find out what they have missed and to make up work. When a student is absent, check Edline to see the notes and homework from that day (especially for math). If you wish to have work sent home, email me by 1:00pm that day. I will do my best to leave work in a locker or send it with a sibling in another grade. Otherwise your child can get the work when he/she comes back. Please always check on Edline for any assignments or tests.
Absences and tardies require written excuses for New York State. Those that are not documented are assumed to be illegal absences by the state. I have included an excuse note for your convenience. You may copy this as you need it, or you may write your own note. If you use your own, please include your child's name, the date(s) they were absent, the reason why, and your signature. If you email me to let me know about an absence or early dismissal, please make sure to also copy it to Janet Lenehan (jlenehan@lcs.org) at the school office.
If your child comes in late, you must sign them in at the office and include a reason. If a child is late five times, they will have to serve an after-school detention. "Late" means not in our classroom by 8:10am.
On days your child will be absent or tardy please notify the school office by 9am, either by phone (434-6051) or email (jlenehan@lcs.org).

Legal Absences:
All other absences are considered illegal and will be recorded as such.
Prearranged Absences:
If you know your child will be missing school, please get a green "Prearranged Absence" form from the office or me.
You will need to fill it out and submit it to me or the office. This needs to be done at least THREE DAYS before your child
will be absent. Click here for the Prearranged Absence Form.
Please let me know if your child will be leaving early. The school office and I need to know when
and why for NY State attendance records. I have included an early dismissal note on
below for your convenience. You may copy this as you need it, or you may
write your own note. If you use your own, please include your child's name, the
date and time that they are leaving early, the reason why, and your signature. If you email me to let me know about
an early dismissal, please make sure to also send in a note, because we need a hard copy for state records.
Early Dismissal Note for you to use (pdf)
Change in Dismissal: You must send in a note (or email me) if there is any change from
your child's regular dismissal routine. This is for safety reasons.
When I pass out papers, there are enough copies for every student. If a student needs another copy for some reason, they
must pay ten cents per page for another one. (The front of a page is one page. The front and back would be two pages.)
Please fill out the LCS Emergency Form and hand it in ASAP.
This is very important. This was sent home over the summer, but
if you need another one, please contact the school office. This needs to be kept up-to-date, otherwise your child will not be
allowed to attend field trips or participate in recess, gym, or sports.
Health Office
Students will not be allowed to get any medicine from the health office, including over-the-counter medications, without
parental and doctor consent. You will need to get a form for this from the health office or else
it's online. Please fill it out and
return it
to that office. This needs to be kept up-to-date (for allergies, etc.), otherwise your child will not be
allowed to attend field trips or participate in recess, gym, or sports.
The nurse will not be giving out cough drops. If you think your child needs them, please send in a note and cough drops and
I will allow your child to take some.
PLEASE do not send your child to school if they are sick, especially if they have a fever or have been vomiting. When your
child is fever-free for 24 hours without medicine, they may then return to school. This applies to
vomiting as well: please wait 24 hours from when they last vomited before allowing them to return to school.
Homework assignments for the day will be written on the assignment board in the classroom for the students to copy into
their student planners. All homework must be done neatly, on time, and be fully completed. Sloppy work will
not be accepted.
Regular homework that is not turned in on time will have 20 points taken off. The work must be handed in the next
day. If it is not, it will be a zero. For all major projects and reports, 10 points will be taken off for each day the
assignment is late.
There will be one warning for each quarter. The warning means a late assignment will not have points taken off, but it still
needs to be done and handed in the next day. I do not give unnecessary homework. Therefore, if it's assigned, there is a
reason for it. (Warnings are not given for major projects like the country fair.)
Any test grade that is below an 80% must be signed by a parent and
returned to school the next day. Please do not just sign and return the test. Go over it with your child so you can help
them see and understand what they did wrong so they won't do it again on the test (or on other quizzes or tests). Students
often make the same mistakes in their work.
It would be very helpful for you to go over all tests and quizzes with your child. Look at anything they got wrong, even
if the grade wasn't low. This can help them avoid the same kinds of mistakes in the future.
Students are not allowed to use their cell phones during school hours for texts or calls: 7:50 am – 3:05 pm. They may use it after school
during homeroom with teacher permission to call you.
If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call the main office at 434-6051.
Your child is able to have milk at lunch as part of the LCS tuition. There are two choices: 1% white or low-fat chocolate milk.
The milk choice can change, however it won’t go into effect until the next time milk is ordered. If, at any time during the year,
your child wants a change, please send in a note indicating the change with your signature. The changes will take place at the beginning of the
next month. I do not require the students to drink milk, however if they don’t have milk, please include a juice box or water with your
child’s lunch. Please keep in mind that milk is not drunk during snack, so you may also want to include a drink for that time.
Consistent with the other elementary grades, soda is not permitted for either lunch or snack (except on party days).
Students may have a water bottle to keep at their desk throughout the day, as long as it only contains water and can be closed.
Please make sure your child has a healthy snack for our snack time (no dessert or candy).
In order to chaperone field trips, the school needs to clear you as a driver. In order to do this, you must fill out a
Volunteer Driver Application Form. You may pick up one from the school office, or
get it from the school website.
In addition to filling out the form, you must attach a copy of your driver's license and current vehicle insurance card.
If you have
already been cleared, you don't need to fill out a new form, but make sure the office has a current copy of your insurance card
(which expires every 6 months) and your driver's license.
Please do this as soon as possible, so I don't have to worry about having
cleared drivers for field trips. Thanks!
